   IPE Spotlight

Sharon Row is on our Board of Directors and teaches Business & Technology at Merrillville High School in Lake County.  Her current classes include:  Business Law, Marketing, Business Management, International Business, E-Commerce/Web Design and Computer Apps I & II.  This fall, she will teach dual-credit and CTE courses in addition to coordinating a new business internship program for MHS students.  If that wasn't enough to keep her busy, she has volunteered her time as a teacher mentor for the Freshman Mentor Program.  In the evening, she serves as an adjunct professor at Indiana Wesleyan University.

Prior to moving to the high school a few years ago, she taught 5th grade Music at Merrillville Intermediate School.  Before her major move back to northwest Indiana, she taught K-6 music in East Allen County Schools (Woodburn Elementary, Highland Terrace Elementary, Leo Elementary, Cedarville Elementary, Monroeville Elementary & New Haven Elementary) and parochial schools in both DeKalb and Allen County (Benoist Academy in Fort Wayne, St. Joseph's in Garrett and St. Joseph's in Monroeville).

Sharon has two incredible daughters,  Megan & Cassandra.  Megan is married, lives in Chicago, helps students pursue their dreams at the Art Institute and volunteers her time and talents to New Leash of Life.  Her husband Nicholaus is the chef de cuisine at Japonais.  Cassandra works in a successful law firm in Auburn, Indiana and has recently earned her degree from Brown Mackie.  This past year, Sharon was blessed with being host mom and home to Fabian, an extremely gifted and talented high school exchange student (and soccer goalie) from Hitzhusen, Germany.

She hails from small town North Judson, Indiana, where hard work and ethics was what life was all about.  After receiving her B.S. in Music Ed from Indiana State, she entered the real life business world where she climbed the corporate ladder and broke through the glass ceiling working for Ford Motor Company, Sony (Digital Audio Disc Corporation) and General Housewares Corp.  After 19 years of a notable and international corporate career, she returned to the humble occupation of teaching.   Not being able to sit still, she returned to school at IU-N and earned her M.B.A. in Marketing and Administration.

Sharon thrives on tearing up her house and remodeling (replacing floors, doors, landscaping, painting, electrical, etc).  Spare time is spent with her pets, reading, cooking, sewing and with friends.  While she is highly qualified for the corporate business world,  her love and devotion falls to her students during the school year.   She has taught over 8,000 children to date.
